Getting a student visa is one of the most common strategies for Filipinos to enter Australia. It can put you on a path to permanent residency, however, it is usually one of the more expensive routes. What many people don't know is that there are several scholarships in Australia, which are available to Filipino students, alleviating any financial burdens. We breakdown seven amazing Australian scholarships that you can apply for in 2021/2022.

Scholerships
  1. ASEAN Scholarship

    Institution: Macquarie University (MU)
    Location: Sydney, NSW
    Type: Fee reduction
    Amount: AUD 10,000

MU is not only in the heart of Sydney but is also in the top 1% of universities in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2020 and Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021. MU has high global rankings in courses like classics and ancient history, philosophy, linguistics, and accounting and finance. MU also ranks in the top 100 globally and top 10 in Australia for these courses.

There are a couple of educational institutions that automatically deduct tuition fees if you’re from an ASEAN country, and MU is one of them. They provide a deduction of AUD 10,000 from the annual tuition fees to all ASEAN students. The scholarship is usually for on-campus students only but MU has made concessions for those who cannot meet this demand due to COVID-19.

You can also have a part time job while you study, helping you to gain valuable experience and earn money to cover your extra living expenses. Those with a Student visa can work 40 hours every fortnight.

  7. Tasmanian International Scholarship

    Institution: University of Tasmania (UT)
    Location: Hobart, TAS
    Type: Fee reduction
    Amount: 25% reduction of fees

University of Tasmania is also included in the Go8 group of universities, which means it is one of the most prestigious institutions in the country. Most undergraduate degrees (with the exception of Medicine, Dementia Care, Surgery and Seafaring) and postgraduate degrees are covered in the fee reduction scope.

While Tasmania may not be the top location of choice for many Filipino students, the location has its own benefits if you are considering permanent residency after finishing your studies. Unlike other places, the entire state of Tasmania, and not just its more remote areas, is considered a regional area. This means that after you finish your degree, Tasmania may open the opportunity for you to apply for certain regional visas that you won’t be eligible for if you choose to stay in major cities.
